Dante Alighieri

Dante was born in 1265 in Florence and died in 1321 exiled in Ravenna. He has been the most important poet in worldwide literature and the father of the Italian language join to Francesco Petrarca and Giovanni Boccaccio. When he was only 10 years old his mother died and he lived with his father. While he was still a child he saw Beatrice for first time, in 1283 he saw her again but he was never able to talk to her and she got married. In 1290 Beatrice died and Dante wrote “Vita nova” to her. From this moment Dante was dedicated to the philosophical study as we can see in “De Volgare Eloquentia”, “Monarchia” or in his mater piece “La divina Commedia”.

La divina commedia (1304-1321) is one of the most important books all over the history. It narrates an extraterrenal, allegoric and moral travel inspired by Beatrice in which can be seen the influence of Aristotle, Averroes, Thomas Aquinas and St.Agustine.

It is divided into three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso (Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven) stared in Virgilio who represents the reason and in Beatrice who represents the Faith and the divine science.
